Why shoot film? Isn't it too expensive? You don't prefer digital? These are the questions I get majority of the time I'm seen shooting with an old film camera, and I tend to answer them every time with the same overly energetic response, "It's magic"
History is a part of our lives, every second, of every day, from your past, which leads to your present, which shapes your future. This is a function of time and space that we can not run from, and theyare forever intertwined. The beauty of film is that old historic moves, ideas, and creations have the capability to capture the present moments of today. Here, you may be holding a camera made from the 1970s, a camera made long before you were born and possibly older than your parents. Now, let's imagine what life that camera has lived before it came into your possession. there's been wars, peace, countless new ideas, and the fall of countless old ideas, and that camera your holding has captured the past of those moments through someone else's perspective.
Times may seem different now that we're in them, but the great quote says, "There's nothing new under the sun." With the power of film, I can capture moments I've experienced, and that piece of time can now be held physically in a 35mm photograph. With proper care these cameras can continue to be passed along to future generations and provide them with the experience to capture time in a bottle, or should I say a lens.
