Being a Johnathan Majors supporter for years, I honestly didn't think he could top his performance in the film Devotion, which was open, vulnerable, and against the grain. I humbly stand corrected. The performance Majors has given us in Magazine Dreams is nothing short of incredible.

Killian Maddox (Jonathan's character) exposes us just to how overlooking the world can be and what it can do to someone who suffers from a childhood that many go through and is quite often buried in emotions such as anger, frustration, and confusion. There's such a fast pace to film making nowadays that I feel the act of character development takes a passenger, if not the back seat, to a lot of projects.

There was a time when the term slow burn was accepted and meant the author/writer/actor took their time building a character's story. I completely understand the demand for a 2-hour-plus movie is not the same but it's the nuisances of a character that sticks the film together. That being said, Majors and the team took the proper time to build the character, while letting us explore his mind and emotions.

There were many periods within the film you felt like you were watching someone from the corner of your eye struggle and deal with a battling thought process in real time. Being in the gym for many years, I have witnessed those who build their personalities in the mirror, hoping that what looked great on the outside would eventually make it to the inside. I've seen the kid who's small put on a bit of muscle and begin walking upright and more confident, which is a great thing, but it's the discipline of it all that truly makes you confident, as the physical aesthetics is a byproduct of the craft.

From our perspective, we see that Killian is in the top percentile of all people when it comes to physical physics which most people would give an arm and a leg for, but his outside matched nothing he felt on the inside.

Director Elijah Bynum perfectly captures glimpses of Killian past traumas, which we've seen mold him into the man he became, from the stem of his trauma, he grew a branch of great ambition but yielded poisonous fruit.

Although this film has many scenes that are unpleasant and hard to watch this is a film the world needs to witness as the surrounding conversations would spark buried ideologies and mental health advocacy.

I also appreciate the film showing glimpses of light in such a dark tunnel (no spoilers) that leaves us with a sense of hopefulness. A huge congratulations to the entire production team I believe everyone on the project should receive an award; with phenomenal cinematography, sound, lighting, etc., this film was truly a masterpiece.
